Mick Giliker, is a new guy to our local scène... Although relatively new on the 'local' circuit, Mick has been playing guitar and singing for as long as he can remember! Early influences were the Beatles, then, Stevie Wonder was heard over his cat's whisker radio, and as if by magic, the whole world order was changed. Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle, and all those magnificent soul stars were to follow in his collection, until a new bench-mark came along in the shape of Donny Hathaway, who's beautiful voice was sadly silenced in 1973. However, the Beatle connection has endured, take a listen to DH's versions of 'Yesterday' and 'Jealous Guy' (McCartney/Lennon evergreens) and hopefully you'll get the message yourselves. And Mick says; 'he still finds an enormous amount of pleasure in singing those and other Beatles favourites in his own style (or so he likes to think)'. |

Essentially, if he likes a song, he'll try and sing it - his way! Partnering him occasionally on his quest for a fair hearing is; The unmistakeable keyboard and vocal talent of one Colin Browne (Barclay James Harvest), Jeffrey Henson on bass, ( himself a very fine singer), John Griffiths, ( local Stoke lad now living in Bath), and a superb jazz guitarist, Jamie Bannister on alto. And when we can get the licensee to cough up the extra fee, a pick of several drummers who happen to be available at the same time! So go along and check-out Mick and Co, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Mick assures you that everyone will be most welcome. Mikes looking forward to the great gigs he has planned, so watch this space ! |
