Gary Carroll...   An Inspiration To Us All !

'Until two years ago (November '06) I had never really done much musically, though I've always found a joy in singing and the release it brings.

I was singing at karaoke nights here and there, which was great fun for awhile, but it was no longer enough.
I loved raw live music !

So, I started looking for local open-mic nights on the internet, which is where I discovered the Tackeroo in Hednesford.

So I contacted the host...
Of the open-mic night Paul Walker and went to the Tackeroo just to see, I loved it, so I went back the following week with some 'chords' printed off for Paul to play, who very generously supported me for two months until Christmas (06) when I bought myself a guitar, a book, and proceeded to learn !

Then, after four months...
I braved it on stage, and that was it !  And I've been going pretty much every week since then, and I love it !

I started listening to 'proper' music...
When I was about 10, and that was in the form of my first and main inspiration, The Pet Shop Boys. Quirky in style I found them very interesting being so young, and as I gradually collected everything they have ever produced, I heard deep meaning lyrically, and musical genius.

Slightly later, I discovered the Mancunian band, James, a complete contrast to the synthesizers and precisely pronounced lyrics of the PSB's. And James' simple guitar chord patterns, riffs, echoing trumpets and Tim Booth's powerful vocals, totally captivated me.

I've also been inspired by bands; Embrace and Coldplay, vocally by; The Carpenters and Declan Galbraith, and more recently by Irish artist; Maurice Dickson, local band Telegramme and the amazing Neil Young.

But I must give...
A special mention though to Paul Walker who inspired me to pick up a guitar. Paul's talent, passion, open personality and constant encouragement mean the world to me.

I am currently trying to learn some fingerstyle, whilst expanding my chord and rhythm knowledge, and also trying to learn new songs (or rather old songs !) that I come across and think, ooh I'd like to give that a go !

So what's next ?
I am hoping to do a bit of recording and start doing some solo gigs. I am always open to doing duets too ! But I would like to stay as a solo act, because I feel that's where my heart lies.

I love the peeled rawness of the acoustic sound.'
